Life in the past

Dear 'Britishers',

Nowadays we have so many modern conveniences that it's difficult to imagine what life would be like without them. If you could go back and live in the past, let's say 100 or so years ago, what would you miss the most? You wouldn't be able to write on this blog for starters........

Have a good week and enjoy carnaval

Paul

I would love lived in 1900!

The good things about this time are:
- Expensive jewellery;
- Beautiful clothes;
- Romantics and charm;
- Literature.

There were bad things too:
- Wars;
- Diseases;
- Hunger;
- Non-potable water.

Although I think we can’t compare these 2 times, there are some things that are vital in nowadays:
- Health care;
- Electricity;
- Tap water;
- Gas;
- Technology.

Aldora (finally I was the first one!)

I can’t imagine my self 100 years ago. To be honest, I wonder how it will be the world in the next 500 years from now, and I’m sad to know that I will not be here anymore. I think it will be amazing with lots of sophisticated technology and lots of things we can’t imagine now. Maybe a cure for Cancer and AIDS will be discovered and the solution for world starving and global warming.

So, if I lived 100 years ago, I think I would miss a lot of fantastic things, almost all technological things: internet, mobile phones, mp3 devices, and I also had a worst quality of life, even if I was a rich person. For instance, I wouldn’t had so many ways to cure illness, I couldn’t travel so much and discover so many fantastic places, I couldn’t use internet and have all the world in my computer, and so on.
I wouldn’t like to live 100 years ago. I prefer to live in this right moment and, who knows, some years forward!
Have a nice Carnival and we see next 2nd March!

To live 100 years ago?! No, thanks! I prefer 1000 times, like Rita, know how will be the world some years after.
I think about 500 years is too much. Maybe 100 years is enough for see our planet completely transformed by the technology. We are stupidly dependent of it. Nowadays, Machines have an exponential development and we, like human being, become us rapidly dependents of them. In the other side, we have the risk “don’t have blue planet in 100 years” with all the evil that the Man and the technology cause to it.
So, about move backwards: no thanks!, because I don’t get imagine my life without drinking water, drains, electricity, internet, gas, health care, fresh clothes, medicaments, hygiene products, etc.

Good Carnival! I'm going to eat "cascas" :D (maybe only Sofia knows, what I'm talking about!!!)

Hi everyone!

I’m trying to put myself 100 years ago… and I am starting to feel dizzy. Well, first of all, I would lose the most wonderful 20th century invention… TV (of course!)... and then computers, internet, all digital gadgets… I think this is enough to show my wish to do such travel in time.

To be perfectly honest, the past does not attract me. I like to live surrounded by technology… and I have to agree with Rita and Joana, I would pay to get a glimpse of the world in the year 2100.

Have a nice Carnival!!!

Well, I think - to be perfectly honest, I know – that if I could go back in time and live 100 or so years ago, it would be an adventure for me. However I must confess that it would not be the most pleasant one. Why? 100 years do not seem a lot of time but it is quite a bit in which regards to society’s way of thinking and seeing things. For example, as a woman I know that my life would not be easy and that I would have some problems. After all, equal rights and duties between men and women were not society biggest concern at the time.

Besides that and as a person who cares a lot about being informed and knowing what goes on in the world, I am sure that it would be very difficult for me to live without internet and television. To have free and fast access to the news and to all kind of information is crucial for me. To know something only a weak or more after it happened it is not exactly what I like.

The lack of good, comfortable and fast ways of travelling would be another big problem. I can not imagine what would be like to take one day or even more just to travel from Porto to Algarve. Nowadays the world seems to be such a small place, where everyone can easily be in touch with everyone else.

I could go on writing about what I would miss the most, but I think that I would always forget something. It is just when we stay without the things that we really understand how important they were and are for us.

See you next Monday.

Hello
Nice topic :)

Like Aldora said I love that century, all things, the places, the clothes, the history, the culture, but I also cannot imagine the hunger, wars, diseases.

If I can choose I would live in this time because I think I can imagine my life without somethings... all technology, healthy cares, travels facilities, ... But sometimes I think we evolute in lots of things but in others we stop.

I'm anxious about how will be the future, what change, which keeps. When I was teenager and I watched some future films I thought that the future would be more different that it real is.

See you later.

Difficult topic...

I imagine my self living 100 years ago without stress and able to spend more time with my family and friends.

If I count how many hours I spent everyday in front of the computer, telephone and mobile phone, plus the time I stay stuck in traffic and the televison I see... well I'm sure life would change a lot!

The bad things about life 100 years ago would be: low life expectancy, travel and comunications dificulties and only few women worked.

The things I would miss... my computer and internet, my car and my bathroom and warm shower.
