A sportsperson I admire

What sportspeople do you admire? Why? Do they do anything apart from sports? Have they broken any records? Are they physically attractive?

Looking forward to your comments

I don't have any interest in sport, so I don't have a sportsperson I admire. I'd like to talk about Nureyev, but he was a dancer (ballet), not a sportsman.
I'm waiting for the next post!

I wish all of you good holidays! I'll go to Germany.
See you next lesson!

There are some Olympics sports that I admire, by his beauty and hard training and preparation necessary to obtain high performance, my short list include Athletics Tracks events, like sprints, middle distance running and hurdling, I like Artistic Gymnastic to, that is a mixing of strength and agility, I still have a slight memory of Nadia Comeneci, that obtained a perfect 10 score at the 1976 Montreal Games, with only 14-year-old.

Nowadays I admire Vanessa Fernandes, she was born on 14th September of 1985, she’s daughter of Venceslau Fernandes, who was a Cycling road racer and won a Portugal Cycling tour in 1984. Vanessa started his professional career in 1999 on the triathlon of Peniche, and with 15 years old she moved to Lisbon “Jamor”, where she is living now to training at full time, she represents FTP “Portuguese triathlon federation” since 2001.

In 2006 she reached to the first position of the world ranking and confirmed her quality on 6 of May of 2007.

Nowadays she has nineteen victories in the world triathlon competitions and she’s one hope to win a gold Medal in the Olympic Games this year.

I admire one person of football. He is a coach, a Portuguese coach and is name is José Mourinho. This preference is because he is a determined man, has a strong personality, is hard-working and has accurate decisions.
He is a special man, a little arrogant but has given proof of his capacities.
I also find him physically attractive.
He is a winner and I like people who fight for their dreams.

Unfortunately, nowadays, the football is the “king sport”! Our country can stay replete of corruption, fraud, injustice, duties, unemployment,… but when whether talk about football, all of this problems are forgotten.

The media gives so much attention to the football and others sports like athleticism, artistical skating, paraolympic games, roller-skate hockey and so on, don’t have so much consideration and, sometimes, are even forgotten.

The same thing happens with the Government that spends more money with supports and infrastructures to the football that with the others sports.

I don’t admire only one sportspeople, but all like Nair Gomes and Vanessa Fernandes that compete with devotion and love for the sport and your nation.

Hi everybody,
I don’t have an idol in the sport world, but, as I’m a surfer’s wife, I have to live surf as I practise it! So, in this field I have someone that I admire. His name is Kelly Slater and he was 8 times surf world champion. He is 36 years old and he was born in Cocoa Beach – Florida. He started to compete in 1990, at the age of 18, but I think he surf since he was born! He is very good looking and attractive man. In fact, all surfers wives admire him for his physical appearance (don’t tell my husband about this!!).
In his spare time he likes to play golf and play guitar. He also participated in “Baywatch”. If you want to know more about him, or simply see him, please accede to the link below:

He was born in 1943 in Mozambique. He loves football since he was a child. He tried the inscription at “O Desportivo” but he wasn’t accepted. So he started to play at “Sporting de Lourenço Marques” (Sporting branch at Mozambique). Later, Benfica offered more money than Sporting and he started to play at Benfica. At the first year he helped Benfica won the second European Champion Cup on consecutive years.
In 1962 he earned 1500€ at Benfica, and Juventus offered him 80000€, but the government decided to send him to the army.
In 1966, the Italians offered him 450000€ (he earned 20000€ at Benfica), but some days later appeared a news that Italian teams couldn’t contract foreign football players. So he played at Benfica until 1973 and he won: 1 European Champion Cup and 11 Portuguese Competitions.
He was European Champion Cup finalist for 3 times. He was golden-boot for 2 times (as better soccer) and he scored 733 goals during his entire career.
He was known as “Pantera Negra” and his name is Eusébio da Silva Ferreira.

Honestly I’m not a sport fan.
When I was children a like football and admire football players and all people around this sport.
Now my opinion change and I only think that this is one way to earn money.
I admire people that fight to obtain their objectives and in sports we see that often but it is also a money machine.

Well, I can´t tell you that my sportpersons are Figo or Ronaldo because I can´t talk about them (I don´t appreciate football).
I appreciate Vanessa Fernandes, is a young lady, not physically attractive but she works very hard to win medals on triathlon. It´s a very tiring sport: run, swim and riding. It´s a pity she talks so bad, but she is the best in her job!
But I have thought about a person and I remembered the first time I saw Esther Williams´s movies, for me she was the best one. It seems marvellous to see a well dressed lady swimming so beautiful with music, lights and jet of waters: synchronized swimming. Then when I grew up, I knew Marta Reboredo in beach and in that time she was very good swimmer and won medals.
In Olympic-games I appreciate diving, rhythmic gym, but I can´t say who is my sportperson.
