TV

I don't have a television myself, or rather I have one but it is not connected to cable or an aerial so I can't watch TV even if I wanted to. I don't miss watching TV as I have plenty of other things to occupy my time. But I do admit I occasionally watch it when I go round to a friend's house when they might already be watching CSI, National Geographic Channel or the news. Thirty minutes to an hour is all I can manage - after this I become a bit like a zombie :) . When I was young (many many years ago) I think I used to watch quite a lot of TV: soap operas, documentaries, sports programmes, music programmes. What a waste of time that was! There was a children's programme called 'Why don't you...', which began with the song 'Why don't you....why don't you.....why don't you go and turn the TV off and do something else instead?'. Very good advice but a bit strange as I wouldn't have been able to watch that programme if I had turned the TV off.

Anyway, what about you? What do you watch?

Paul

TV… MMM…It depends, if it’s during the or in the weekend. During the week if I’m in Portugal, normally I don’t watch television because I don’t have time for it, and the series or programs I like, they pass to late for me, and a can not watch them all to the end. When I have the opportunity to watch TV, I like to watch some series in AXN or some debate programme. During the weekend I like to stop a little bit in the sofa and watch TV or a film, especially on Sundays.
When I’m travelling in Spain, normally I see the news, and sometimes I watch a film. Whenever I have free time, I take the opportunity to read the newspaper or a book.
See you in class.

Sometimes I would like to see more TV. I don’t have “TV cabo”, so I only Know the 4 common channel, the first and the second one (RTP 1 and RTP 2) have some very interesting programs (debates or entertaining programs). I really would like to watch some oh them, but sometimes because or I don’t have time or I’m not in home when they pass or because eading so late, I don’t watch them. TVI is a channel that I refuse me to see, for all the bad reason!

Nice weekend,
Joana

Well, watching TV is not one of my favourites hobbies. Like Paul, I used to watch quite a lot of TV when I was younger. Why? I think almost all children love TV, because it is a new and different world the one that they found out through the television. But nowadays TV has lost all it glamour and I rarely watch it.

I do not have cable television and so a must watch the Portuguese four national channels. Unfortunately only Channel 2 has a good TV programming: documentaries, cultural programmes, short but quite accurate news and even the children programmes are good – they do not show any kind of violence.

Some series and films, cooking programmes and documentaries are the ones I choose to watch on TV, whenever I have some free time. In spite of all, the truth is that we can still watch some quality programmes. It is all a matter of luck in finding it out.

Dear all,

I don’t watch to much television, for three reasons: First, I arrive a little bit late at home, during the week, and than I have lots of things to do like washing clothes, do dinner, and so on. The second reason is because, as I don’t have cable, I’m limited to the four Portuguese Channels and one or two others that I can get (because my building has cable installation).

So, I don’t have much choice. Finally, the programs on the four channels resumes, essentially, to soap operas and reality shows and I don’t appreciate neither one nor the others!

But, every day, after do my house work, I seat in front of the TV and I like to watch the second Channel series like “Weeds”, “Supernatural”, “Lipstick Jungle”, “The Sopranos”, “What about Bryan?”, “My name is Earl” and so on. I like this kind of program because it makes me relax and think about nothing!!

I also like to watch the news, National Geographic Channel, Odyssey and Discovery Channel and everything related with nature and animals, but as I don’t have cable, I can’t watch these channels.

When I go on holiday, I never watch TV and sometimes it takes 3 or 4 weeks!

I don’t think I’m a TV addict and I will never be. If I have something better to do, I never watch television.

See you tomorrow

Hi everyone

Quite unusual Paul ;)…most people spend your free time watching TV because of their children, who only stay quiet when they watch TV, and also as a way of relaxing. Parents have been loosing their empowerment.

Curiously this morning when I bought the newspaper I read an article about TV. Frank Lloyd Wright wrote that “TV is chewing-gum to our eyes”, and here is a great sentence to think about.

TV has advantages and disadvantages but, in my opinion, TV in general is quiet bad. As Paul and other mates wrote, I don’t have much time to do it, but I like to watch the news and some programmes as current affairs, soap operas like Grey’s Anatomy. However, I prefer going out with friends or reading a book. Instead of that, I like to fall asleep with TV’s noise. I have to admit that if I’m alone at home, I’m always listening music or with TV’s on. Noise has to be a constant; otherwise I can not concentrate, when I’m working.

After all these years, I could say that I reduced the time which I spend in front of TV.
TV’s programmes have become worst but my preferences have been changing too.

Well, time to go…see you tomorrow

Like internet, television is a fast way to access information of all kinds. I rarely watch television. Normally in the end of the day when I want to relax a bit before going to bed I watch Sic Notícias Channel to follow the news. The television programs I like most are some series, documentaries and the news.

In my opinion, television can be one of the quickest and cheapest way to access information but on the other hand, it represents danger to younger people because they don´t select information and don´t have reading habits.

Like Claudia sad television as lost his glamour a long time ago. Now it is an example of globalization, everyone can access all types of information, can see a wide range of programs, it represents the transformations on the world and everything that concerns it.

I watch TV almost everydays but I not the kind of person who turns on the TV right after arriving home.

My favorite programs are fiction series, news and football matches.
I also love to watch good documentaries about people, politics or conflicts.

I prefer cable channels like RTPN, SIC Notícias and FOX, but I also like RTP2 at night.

Until today I have been resisting to subscribe Sportv because I'm affraid of loosing control and watch as many football matches as I can.

Hello everyone!

Well, to tell the truth watching TV is one of my favourite hobbies. During the week I usually spend 3/4 hours a day in front of TV. It is a kind of relax treatment after a day full of work.

I like to watch series, documentaries, football matches and films. I am a big fan of FOX series like “The Simpsons”, “Doctor House” and “Prison Break”, and because of that sometimes I feel like I am glued to FOX channel.

I know I should spend less time watching TV. I perfectly understand what Frank Lloyd Wright wrote about TV. About this I only can say that I have two eyes that love chewing gums. :p

See you soon!

Hello guys!
I love watching TV, it's a way to relax.
I like to see the news, movies, series and sometimes soap operas (if it isn't anything better).
However, my work doesn't always allow me to sit in front of the TV because I spend a lot of time in front of a monitor, and as you can imagine, the TV is not the best option for a hard day in front of the computer.
In general, is a great time, especially when it rains a lot and it's very cold outside and we have the TV next to the fireplace:)
See you soon!

Hi people,

When I was a teen I used to watch TV a lot, especially with friends. I think TV was a way to socialize where we watched programs and talked about them. I remember in Brasil, that after play football on the street, or ride a bike, we often altogether in a house of someone to watch a film on TV or other type of programs that we liked. Good moments.
Actually I don’t watch TV as before and I agree with people that watching TV everyday during many hours isn’t good. For example, it is a passive action instead internet where people is more active. But, if the people have the capacity to choose good programs, I think TV is a good way for entertainments and to get information.

António.
