Reading

Hello again everyone,

Hope your week's going well and you're not working too hard :)

This week I'd like to know what kind of things you like to read. I wouldn't call myself a prolific reader but I like to read a book every now and again. I can never seem to read at night time, which for me is a time for watching films, cooking and relaxing with friends. Morning is the best time of the day for me. I like a book that makes me think, that is not too easy to read and that I can put down every so often and think about the story. If I am able to read it very quickly then it's not worth reading. I like thrillers and anything with an unexpected twist. Romances, like Barbara Cartland novels, are not for me :) . I really like travel literature, where I can lose myself in a faraway exotic place......tropical island with lots of palm trees.....

Anyway, how about you?

Hi everyone!
At last, the first!
Well, I’m also not a prolific reader, in fact reading makes me sleeping (like watching films ;-), but I like to read on holiday, when I’m on the beach, with nothing to do and, if I felt asleep, no problem!
When I like a book, I read it several times, because, every time I read it, I find something new, some missing information that I haven’t noticed before.
My two (imagine, only two!!) favorite books are “1984”, from George Orwell, who inspirit “Big Brother” reality show and “Brave New World” from Haldous Huxley. The two stories are about how the society would be in the future and it describes a very strange cenary. This future is now the past and nothing happened!
The stories ends bad, and they are not very far from the possibility (specially “Brave New World” that tells the story about a clone society).
I also like to read romances, that easy ones, with a bad end that make us cry a lot!

See you next Monday

Well, I think I can call myself a prolific reader, because I try to read, at least, a book a month. Reading gives me an enormous pleasure and the all reading process - that begins with the choice of the book and goes on day by day until I read the last page – it is fantastic.

The South American writers, like Jorge Amado, Isabel Allende and so on, are my favourite ones. Captains of the Sand - a Brazilian novel written by Jorge Amado - is one of my all time favorite’s books. The novel is about a gang of one hundred orphans and abandoned children, who live by stealing in the streets of Bahia. It is an amazing story and I seriously recommend it to everyone I know. I also like Portuguese literature and I, specially, admire Eça de Queirós. The way he described the 19th century Portuguese society and it faults can still make us think about our own behaviour nowadays.

The shadow of the wind, written by Carlos Ruiz Zafón, was the book chosen by me to read in November. I am quite curious about it, because the book has very good reviews and some of my friends, that already read it, loved the story.

See you all tomorrow.

Hi :)

Like Rita i can't call myself as a prolific reader because during university I only have time to read theory books in order to pass in exams and the newspaper on sundays.
Nevertheless, I dedicate almost half of my vacation time to reading. I prefer knowledge books, like the author John Maxwell who has some excellent books and now and then i like to read a romance.
In my opinion, books are the best company when we want to know more about ourselves and to develop new ideas.

See you all tomorrow

Hi everyone

Reading…I would like to spend more time with this activity but it’s impossible :(
While I’m reading a book, I feel like flying to another reality and I forget everything which surrounds me.
Since I’ve started my Master in Finance I only read technical papers and I loosed time to read a book which makes me feel alive.
When I look at my bookcase I feel some sadness. I only could take poetry books because they’re the easiest to read.
Although my actual situation, I like to read during all day, everywhere.
My favourite kinds of books are thrillers, adventure and interesting historical romances. The books’ capacities to involve, think and learn are the most important things which I analyse when I’m trying to choose a book. Romances, like Nicholas Sparks novels, are not my kind of books, because they are extremely predictable.
Recently, I discovered comic books and I’m fascinated.
Now I would like to be in front of sea, which is one of my favourite places to read, with an interesting book but I must to return to my hard reality…
Well, time to go…
See you tomorrow

I like too much read! Unfortunately, since the beginning of October I hadn’t had time to read “history book”. Like I’m used to going to my job by bus, the time that I spend in it, I profit to read… in this time, I’m reading technical books…

My favourite book is “Just like haven” by Marc Levy, as well as the film with the same name. But I like to read Portuguese authors like José Rodrigues dos Santos. My last books had been “The sure hand of God” by Erskine Calwell and “The candle burns to the end” by Sandór Marai. Both a very interesting books!

See you tomorrow!

I like to read but I'm not a prolific reader. Usually for me books are synonymous of holidays, while magazines are my everyday reading.

Concerning to books I prefer novels, true stories about controversial subjects and management books.
I try to read classical authors as Oscar Wilde and Franz Kafka as well as nowadays writters like Dan Brown and the portuguese Miguel Sousa Tavares.

Regarding magazines I subscribe two: monthly the Blue Travel and weekly The Economist. The first one it's a nice magazine to travel at home and the second one it's a good one to learn about world's economy and to practice English!

Hello everyone!

Well, I do not remember when it was the last time I read an entire book. To be perfectly honest, I have never dedicated much time to reading and it all became worse since I started to work.

When I was younger I enjoyed reading adventure books. My favourite book is “The Mysterious Island” written by Jules Verne.

Notwithstanding, when I have some free time I prefer to read technical books in order to learn more about some matter of my own interest.

See you on Monday!

Hi everyone.
I love reading but unfortunately I haven't too much time to do that. At night I try to read something but often I fall asleep or I'm so tired that I read but I don't remember anything :(
I bought several books I haven't read yet. At now I'm reading "Cemitério de pianos" written by José Luís Peixoto, a portuguese writer, it's an interesting book, with lots of stories at the same time, isn't an easy book.
I love to read because when we read an interesting book we really feel that are livin that story, and even when we aren't read we remember the story book's.
I prefer read thillers, dramas, based on real facts... a book where a learn something...
I also read some magazines, sometimes I try to read some musical magazines written in english, I read national geographic but in portuguese, and other magazines.

See you later!

Hello!
Well, I am not a prolific reader too, but I like to read.
I love Paulo Coelho books: “O Alquimista” (basically we shouldn’t give up of our dream) and “Onze minutos” (the cruel life of a girl that becomes a prostitute).
I love the last book of my friend Cristina Pizarro “Uma fase da vida” – a poetry book which style is similar to Eugénio de Andrade.
The book I red in a shortest period of time was “O Código de Da Vinci” (a Dan Brown book) – It has a good mixture of religion, art, secret rituals and fiction.
As you can see I haven’t a style or a read routine - I read a book every now and again (Paul, I loved this sentence!!!)

See you later,

Aldora

Hi!!!

I love reading, the kind of books I prefer to read are thrillers, because I can’t stop reading it. Some times I read books that their goal it’s to increase our knowledge in a specific theme. The kind of books that I would like to read and I have never read it, is a travelling story like “De Buenos Aires a Nova York), a guy that travels all over the American continent in a bike.
Normally I read at lunch or at dinner if I’m alone, but most of the times I read after dinner, if I don’t have other things to do.

See you in 2 hours.

Hi everyone!
I'm not a fan of books, but now I'm trying to dedicate mu freetimes for that area:)
I like books that catch my attention since the beginning, which is not always easy in the books I choose.
Actually, I'm reading the collection of Torey Hayden, a psychologist who relates the true story of a relationship lived in the 1st person with a victim child of bad treatments from her parents.
After that, I'll read "The Secret". They say it's a book based on the Law of Attraction for positive things.
See you in a minute... :)
