A film I have seen recently

Hello everyone!

This week is about films and it would be a good idea if you could write about a film you saw recently.

I don't often go to the cinema and it's more usual for me to rent a film from Blockbusters or, if I like it, I might buy one from Amazon. Anyway, a recent one I bought from Amazon was 2046, a Chinese romance, by the director Wong Kar Wai. The cinematography is amazing and it's just like a piece of art, good art. The cast includes some of the most famous Chinese actors and actresses, like Maggie Cheung, Ziyi Zhang and Tony Leung - I don't know whether you've heard of them. The plot is based in the future but it's really about the past and this can make it difficult to understand. It makes you think, though. I'd give it 5 stars.

What about you?

Paul

I don’t remember me the last time that I went to the cinema!! Don’t remember really!! Maybe would be in past year. Intention doesn’t lack, but time…

So, the last film that I saw, was on TV, some days ago: “Three kings”, an adventure film, that was screen the first time in EUA in 1999, by the director David Russell. The main cast is composed by George Clooney (Rita’ idol!!), Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube. It’s a critical vision about American participation in Golf warm. Fairly interesting, entertaining and informative.

One of the best films that I have seen was “Just like heaven”. It’s cute romantic comedy, based in a beautiful romance book, with the same name. The director is Mark Waters and the cast have actors like Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. As the majority of the film I was crying, crying, crying!:))

Well after a lot of thinking in what was the last film I saw, I remembered that it was the “Wanted”.

This film is based in an explosive graphic novel from Mark Miller, and it tells the story from a failed guy frustrated with life, that becomes a righteous without parallel.

Wesley (the main actor) was the most unhappy, homemade and monotonous be that the world has ever known, until he crosses with Fox (Angelina Jolie), a sexy (like always) and deadly professional murderer that recruits Wesley to the brotherhood, a secret society of professional killers to revenge Wesley father death.

Well the film it’s quite entertaining, it haves a lot of action, and the film is constantly defying the rules of physics.

Like Paul and Joana I barely remenber when was the last time I went to the cinema.
I saw the film Sylvia Plath for the second time a month ago. It’s a drama and the story is based on true facts. The director of the film is Christine Jeffs and the main cast is composed by Gwyneth Paltrow and Daniel Craig. The film is set in England and the photography is absolutely superb.
The plot concerns a girl whose dream is to become a writer. She finds her soul made named has Ted Huges during her ungraduation at Cambridge, a famous english writer. They get together, Sylvia gets into depression and Ted at some point starts to have love affairs. They split up and just when she is in the edges of her despair she starts finally writing.
In my opinion it’s a good film and I would give it 4 stars.

I don’t remember what was the last film I saw. In the last months I didn’t go often to the cinema, on one hand it’s too expensive, on the other hand I didn’t have much time. Usually I don’t see films on TV, I prefer going to the cinema and see it in the big screen. I only see the films that I really want to. Going to the cinema is still a magic moment for me!
It’s difficult to choose what are the best films for me, it depends on the moment I saw it. One of my favourite was “Il Postino” by Michael Radford, because it’s just simple, humble and beautiful.

And now for the 2nd Joana, I didn’t see the film “Sylvia Plath” but I know her life and her poetry very well. She had a tragic end of life and she wrote deeply and intensively about life! 5 stars for her poetry!

Hello, everyone!
First of all, sorry haven't gone to the last lesson, but my work don't allowed me.
About the subject of this week ...
Most of the time I see films at home with my friends ... But is not the same thing ... I really like to go to the cinema!
The last time I went to the cinema was supposed to have seen the movie "Mamma Mia", but it was full, so we decided to see "Zohan" ... I advise you not to see it because doesn't have any issue, nor a great joke ... Really stupid!
But the movie that I liked a lot and recommend it to everyone is called "The Evening" (Ao Anoitecer) ... It tells the story of a woman who is dying with cancer and in the last days of her life she remembered one weekend where she met the her love.

I will find yourselves in the next lesson:)

To be perfect honest I can’t remember the last time that I went to the cinema. The only thing I know for sure is that it was a long time ago, perhaps two or even more years. How is this possible you may ask? Well, I wanted to go but due to my working hours I ended up putting it aside so that I could spend more time with my family and friends.

It is more usual for me to see the films at home on DVD and the last one that I saw was ‘The Hours’. An amazing movie directed by Stephen Daldry. It stars Nicole Kidman, which is the leading actress, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep. As you can see, the cast is absolutely stunning. The plot is based on three different stories, each one performed by one of those actresses. Nicole Kidman’s performance as Virginia Woolf is extraordinary. I would give it five stars.

Dear All,

I would prefer to forget the last time I went to the cinema. The film was “No country for old men” and I still don’t understand how is it possible to give even one Oscar to that film!

Anyway, I’m not that kind of person that goes to the cinema to see every film. To be honest, I almost always felt asleep when I see a film! No metter if it’s on the cinema ot at home! So, for me, the film must be very, very, very interesting to capt my attention or I can’t see anything!

I don’t like films with a very predictable happy end, because I think that real life doesn’t have always an happy end. I prefer a real end, If you understand me, and a real end, most of the times, is sad.

So, one of the best film I remember to see was “The Bridges of Madison County”. It’s a 1995 romance film based on the best-selling novel by Robert James Waller.

The film is set in the summer of 1965. It tells the story of Francesca (Meryl Streep), a lonely Italian Iowa housewife. While her husband and children are away at the Illinois State Fair, she meets and falls in love with a photographer (Clint Eastwood) who has come to Madison County, Iowa to create a photographic essay for National Geographic on the covered bridges in the area. The four days they spend together are a turning point in her life and she writes of her experience in a diary which is discovered by her children after her death.

They don’t stay together, but their love lives forever. It’s a very sad end, but its very close to real life.

Other films I liked were “Cast Away”, “Falling in Love” and “City of Angels” with some of my favourite actors: Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage.

The last film i saw at cinema was “Batman”, I have never seen a film from Batman until maybe 2 or 3 months ago. This isn’t my type of films, I prefer Thrillers or dramas, I like after a film still remembered it, thinking in the message or only think what I felt during the film.
Recently I saw a film in dvd that I bought, The name in Portuguese is “Inocente ou culpado” but the original name is “the life of David Gale” it’s director by alan Parker. This is a thriller/drama and it’s about a teacher, David Gale (Kevin Space) an activist in the fight against the death penalty. It was very amazing because fate wanted himself was convicted of the rape and murder of an activist friend (Laura Linney). With just three days before the execution, Gale put in the hands of journalist Bitsey Bloom (Kate Winslet) an exclusive interview and his own life. During these 3 days were made interesting discoveries about all players and the end was surprising and very emotional. In my opinion it’s absolutely superb, I would give 4 stars and half.

The last good film that I saw was on cinema, some months ago: "Into the Wild".
Sean Penn has written and directed this film, is an adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s book, based on true facts.
The story: Christopher McCandless, just graduated from college in the early 1990s, goes off on an adventure. He is smitten with books he reads—Thoreau, London, Byron. He wants no money, so he gives his to needy causes or burns it.
The movie is gorgeous. Mountains, plains, sky, rivers, animals. The acting is fantastic, totally believable. The scenes are so beautiful
My opinion: Beautiful, deep, true, adventurous, sad, occasionally funny, real, at times very touching.
Isn’t a happy end story.
Awesome soundtrack by Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) too. An exemple: http://br.youtube.com/watch?v=IWgxntibBtE&feature=related

An advice: read first the book.

I would give 4 stars and half.

Hi people,

First, I would like apologizing you because I didn’t go to the last lesson last week. I have been a lot of work to do.

About the cinema, I haven’t gone to the cinema for a months, but there are many films that I like to review. So, to contribute to this Blog I decided to review a film called “O Xangô de Baker Street”. It is a luso-brasilian film, by the director Miguel Faria Jr., based on a book, with the same title, witch has been written by a Brazilian writer, Jô Soares.

The plot is set in Rio de Janeiro in 1886, during the small period of the Brasil Empire where D. Pedro II was the Emperor and the French culture was a strong influence in Brasil. During a performance of a French actress, Sarah Bernhardt (Maria de Medeiros, a Portuguese actress), D. Pedro II (Cláudio Marzo, a Brazilian actor) confides a secret to her: The precious Stradivarius violin, witch has been presented by His Majesty Emperor to a beauty Brazilian Baroness, was thieved. The actress suggests Emperor to contact the great British detective Sherlock Holmes (Joaquim de Almeida, a Portuguese actor) to solve this mysterious. At the same time, a dangerous murder shocks the people of the Rio de Janeiro city with a series of murders women witch has a disgusting sign: a violin string near the women body. So, Sherlock Holmes and his friend Watson arrive in the Rio de Janeiro city to solve the mysterious of the Stradivarius violin and where dangerous is waiting for them: feijoadas, vatapás, pais de santo and the power of the Brazilian mulatas.

Well, that is my suggestion for you.

See you.

Hi everyone!

Well, first of all I want to say that I am a true addicted to everything that can be called by “movie”. I do not dislike any kind of movie… well… maybe the musical movies are too much violent for my stomach… on the other hand, a great comedy makes my day. Therefore, almost every weekend I try to keep up the latest releases and if I have the opportunity I see more than one film.
As so, and after reading the other comments, I must confess that I feel like I am the black sheep of this class… :) So, the last film I saw it was “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay”… and I saw it this afternoon… (and no, I did not see this film with the particular purpose to write this comment! :p). It is a comedy that includes John Cho (this actor appeared in the first three “American Pie” movies) and Kal Penn (the Indian guy of Doctor House’s crew). From the beginning I suspected that putting these guys together I could spend part of the afternoon having some good laughs. And it did happen… Regarding the movie’s plot, it all starts when the two characters become suspects of being terrorists when they try to light a water pipe on a flight to Amsterdam. Well, after this, and of course, being arrested, they begin a big and funny adventure, which includes an escape from Guantanamo Bay prison.
I enjoyed the film very much. I would give it four stars.

Talking about comedies… The best comedy film I ever saw: “There’s something about Mary”.

See you soon!

Hi everyone!
Finally I will enjoy you today!
Three last weeks were very hard because I was in other course "How to talk in public and how to do impact presentations", so I had to miss English classes.
Talking about Cinema, like almost everyone in the blog, I didn't remember my last time at Cinema.
My favourite category is romantic comedy films, and I liked to see "Pretty Woman", "My best friend's wedding", "How to lose a guy in 10 days" and "Serendipity".
Serendipity is my favourite film, where Sara (Kate Beckinsale) and Jonathan (John Cusack) on a shopping day Winter meet, when both try to buy the same pair of gloves and fall in love - despite they have other relationships.
At the end of the night Jonathan suggests an exchange of phone numbers but Sara proposes a different thing: allow destiny to take control of their future.
During the film they continue with their lifes hoping to meet again.
And guess what? They do meet again and they stay together as I like!!!
This film is the proof that destiny when is meant to happen, it happens!

Hi everyone

I was surprised when I read all your posts .
I’ve been working hard in my master dissertation, so I don’t have much time to write, but I promise that I’ ll do it more often.

As other mates said go to the cinema it’s too expensive, so usually, when I have time, I rent films from Blockbuster. Although, see musical and adventure films it’s much better at the cinema.

I like all genres of films with an exception, science fiction films.
When I see a film my expectation is always learn something, so my suggestion for you guys is “Hairspray”. This is not one of my best films but you can learn a lot with it.

Hairspray it’s a musical film which is funny and with a great sense of humour. The plot is based in the vintage 60’s style and shows us different kind of society problems as racism, judgements about people appearance (colour, weight and social level), teenagers behaviour and music’s power. The cast includes a famous actor named John Travolta and his performance is absolutely brilliant. I would give it 4 stars.

See you later
