Would you consider wearing a especif uniform for no more than 4 kind of activities till the rest of your life?

Uniforms are very common among Organizations of many kinds, it’s no more than a standard clothing, it helps within the recognition of specific brands and developing a standard corporate image, even when considering questions like racism, for instance, in scouting is used to cover the differences of country and race, making all feel that they are members one with another of one Brotherhood.

Taking the information above into consideration don´t you think that it works just like fashion?

After all, doesn´t everyone’s image in the eyes of everyone else is created after an X Ray of each individual outfit/sense of fashion?

And did you know that the first service uniform registered with the US Patent and trademark office was the Playboy bunny outfit? Isn’t it bizarre?

It depends on the activities, but I can not imagine my self using a uniform right now. In nowadays many people say that half of us are in our wardrobe, and if pay attention, when we lock to a group of friends they all wear similar style of cloths. For example the bank employees, they all work in suite and that is their uniform, If we look to the big picture we can see that we all use uniforms, some of us use expensive uniforms and others use economic ones, it’s like there are some that can use Park Lane College uniforms and others can use Ealing Tertiary College uniforms.
However in the college, I liked to use the student uniform and at that time I was for the use of uniforms all the time and I think that in all schools since the first years till college students should use uniforms, because it prevents the children and young people discriminate others for clothes that they use.

See you on Monday.

In our society, there are some professions that demand the utilization of uniforms: militaries, firemen, police, air hostesses, nurses, athletes, etc. Some because are the “image of mark”, others because are more comfortable to the activity or are more hygienic.

The uniforms could have different aims: to distinguish some posts in an enterprise or institution; to be more comfortable and adaptable to the activity; easy to wash and more hygienic; and in the school prevent the discrimination between children.

On the other hand, using uniforms, people lose their own identity! The clothing that we use, are a form to express our character, our personality, our identity, our feelings, etc.

I love uniforms! (Attention: not a “fetish” but an admiration since I was child!). I think that uniforms would be obligatory in every professions and in the school. However, I don’t see me with only 4 uniforms for all life. I’m apologist that outside the job or the school we can dress what we want.

Joana, I had almost not recognized you with this uniform! Uauhhh!

I think uniforms are very important for some companies and jobs.
In fact it’s difficult to imagine a hotel staff, an airplane crew or a football team on travel without uniform because it’s somehow established that they need to use it.

I agree with Joana when she says that uniform works like fashion because there is a big concern about uniforms design and it’s common nowadays to invite important fashion designers to create uniforms. Will we assist soon to “Uniform - fashion week”?

I can tell you that I had already used 4 kinds of uniforms:
- my kindergarten one
- the academic costume
- the uniform used by the tennis line judges in a tournament in which I worked
- the porter uniform of Meridièn Porto Hotel

See you on Monday

Well, I have never used any kind of uniform, but I am perfectly aware that it is present in almost all society’s activities. Many schools, the police, the military forces, the scouts and many other groups, organisations and institutions have uniforms or specific rules about what to or not to wear. Are they important?

I think that in many situations an uniform may help preventing some acts of discrimination as everyone wears the same thing, like for example in schools. It is also true that uniforms are important to create a sense of union among those who wear it, like for example in sport where each team has its own uniform. However nowadays uniforms are becoming more a fashion item than a useful item. It seems that it is fashionable to have a dress code or a uniform and as a result of this idea many companies have limited their employees’ freedom. Is this reasonable? I do not think so. After all, each one of us should be able to choose what we want to wear, without forgetting that our choices must be suitable to the occasion.

In spite of all, to wear an uniform it is not a problem for me, if it is a justified decision.

See you all tomorrow.

Hi everyone!

I couldn’t agree more with the opinions written above. I also believe that the uniforms are part of our society and have a specific role, depending on the situations. In some cases the uniforms are very important to create and establish a certain image of institutions and companies, becoming part of its own culture and marketing.

I dare to say that I am a victim of this scenario. I work in a multinational company where men are obligated to wear suit from Monday to Thursday, having only Friday to relax a little bit thanks to the “Smart casual” time. Therefore, only on Fridays we are allowed to leave the suits at home and wear something adjusted to our personality, although we still can not use jeans or tennis shoes.

Besides, the uniforms are also present in our free times, when we become part of a football team, when we try scuba diving or when we try to be Santa Claus on Christmas. :P

See you on Monday!!

Hi

I agree with all comments written by my classmate:).

Of course lots of jobs need uniforms, they are the way we can identify who can help us to find something or understand which product are better for something.

We are judge by clothes we use, people don't care about your personality nether your ideas, first see our imagine and only after want to know what we have inside. This is very materialist but it's natural, we are fascinated or not what we see and after we can discover more things...

Actually In my job and don't need to use any uniform but during 2 years used, isn't a problem for me but I prefer don't wear.

Have a nice day

See you later

Hi, everyone!

Sorry for the delay!
After I read your comments, my first thought was “how difficult it would be if British Council Institute Security had no uniforms!!!” (Cookies, juices …)
Then, I must say that I agree uniforms are necessary to identify works, people and even to avoid discrimination about clothes.
I’ve already worn some uniforms too!!!
I give you some examples below:
- Kimono Karate;
- Volleyball Team;
- Carnival Wear;
- Academic Wear;
- Lab Coat;.
I can’t imagine world without uniforms…
