Food memories

Hope your week is going well, everyone, and you're not working too hard :) . This week I'd like to know what you were like as a kid with food. I don't remember having too many problems with food when I was young. Whatever was in front of me I usually ate, unlike my brothers who hated most vegetables and would go to any length to hide bits of cauliflower or carrot under furniture, which my mother would find a few days later, often covered in mould :( . I do remember finding the taste of tomatoes very strange and it took a long time before I grew to like them. They were an acquired taste. I love them now of course. Beer was another thing I turned my nose up at. When I first tasted it (I must have been about 14) it was so bitter! Now, there's nothing better than a cold beer on a hot summer's day. One thing that I hated and I still hate is pickled beetroot. Absolutely revolting.

What about you?

Hi everyone :)
Food? To be honest it has never been a problem to me. My mother told me that since my first days in this world environment I accepted food has a need and a source to feed my soul. From vegetables to sweets I like most of it all, I definitely don´t have problems with food.
I think I am expressing myself in a way that people may think I am always eating or that I can´t leave without treats but that’s not true. Since I was a child my mom had careful with feeding.
I eat soup every day without potatoes, I just eat a full meal at lunch and about sweets I just really really like eating chocolate but it must be periodically (doesn’t mean that it is). About drinks, I don´t drink alcohol, maybe one glass in 4 months like I do with diet coke. My favourite drink is green tea and orange juice.
I wish you all a nice weekend
See you on Monday,
Joana Silva

FOOD again! Great!
As a child I was allergic to strawberry, banana, sardine and chocolate and I only had problems with leaver (I hate that).
Meanwhile I got older and the allergy disappeared and I could eat everything, except leaver!!! :-)
For people who know me for more than 2 years, it’s easy to understand how greedy I was (and I still am, but with more sense).

See you on 15th December!

Oh, I forgot one thing that I still haven't recovered from - fish and seafood. You can imagine my feelings about bacalhau. Drying cod for so many years and then rehydrating it for 3 days.... yuk!Luckily there are many other nice things to eat in Portugal :)

Hi everyone,
My relation with food is not very pacific. When I was a little girl (until my 4 years old) my mother had a great difficulty to feed me. But, one day, she had the catastrophic idea to give me an appetite syrup and since than, is very difficult to don’t feed me!

I love to eat, however I don’t like all kind of food. For instance, like Aldora, I absolutely can’t eat Liver (it makes me vomit), cow casings and boiled fish. Concerning vegetables, I’m not a lover, but, as they are good for health, I get used to eat them. Fruit is my perdition. I love all kind of fruits from national to tropical fruits. I eat almost everything.

But, when I was a child, and because I’m an only child (I think this is the main reason!) my mother only gave me the food that I like. So, when I got to childhood garden, I had serious difficulties to adapt to the meals. One curious episode that happened to me was when they introduced Cress in the meals. I asked my mother to write a letter to the teacher to tell her to don’t give me Cress. In the next day, when my mother took me to the childhood garden, she gave me the letter and told me to give it to the teacher. With the shame, I didn’t gave the letter and after that day I ate Cress and nowadays, when I eat them, I always remember this story and the taste makes me remember that days. And now I love Cress!

Have a nice weekend!

When I was young I was quite faddy about food. Fish, vegetables and soup were on my personal list of things that I did not want to eat. Why? Well, to be perfectly honest I do not know the reason. I just did not want to eat them and so I used to tell my mother that I did not like them, even though I had not taste it. I drove my mother mad… But a miracle happened and nowadays I am a fish, soup and vegetables lover.

I think that everything changed when I was 10 years old. I started to eat in the school canteen and I had to eat the availed food otherwise I would starve. It was the beginning of a new and different relationship with food. However not everything is perfect and a still cannot eat tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and green peppers as well as fry leaver.

Fruit and milk were never a problem for me. I used to eat them all the time and I still do it. I just love them as well as cheese and all kind of bread.

See you tomorrow.

Me, like Cláudia and the majority of children I hated fish, vegetables and soap. My favourite dish was chips, steak and fried eggs! That would be my meal all days! While a children I and brother were a big headache to my mother concerning the food. Luckily, with the years that change, and now I’m a lover of food :( sometimes, it’s hard to control.

As a good “transmontana” I like caloric and stodgy food e.g. “feijoada” and stuffing. I like too fish, fruit, bread, sweeties, cheese, butter, etc. But calm!! I try to control my self and nowadays (with some exceptions) I try to make a healthy feeding without sweeties, frits and red meat.

Even today, I’m not a big appreciator of vegetables, however, I know its nutritive value and I make a efford to eat some like tomatoes, green bean, lettuce, peppers, raw carrots; but that are others that I really hate like cucumbers, cabbage, watercress and boiled carrot.

See you tomorrow,
Joana Mendes

Hi!
I like all kinds of food and I can get lot of pleasure eating a nice meal.
During the week there is no time to stay at the table having a meal and conversation but that is a thing I really like to do once or twice on the weekend.

I like portuguese food but also italian, indian, chinese, brazilian, japanese or spanish. I like vegetables, fish and meat, fruits and sweets... I mean... everything! Nowardays I'm becoming more conscient about the kind of food I eat and I'm trying to eat as much healthy food as possible. That means eating fish, white meat, vegetables and fruits.

Hi everyone
In my childhood, I had some crazy histories with food. However, I could say that I don’t have many problems with it, but like anybody, I can’t eat broad beans, whiting, liver and goat milk.
When I was a child, one day in a week, my mum cooked whiting. My sisters and I hated this kind of fish. If my mum was near us, we swallowed with water and bread and we took about one hour to eat. On the other hand, if she went to another place of the house, we gave the whiting to our dog. For him it was a fabulous lunch. After many months she discovered and you can imagine what happened!
Well time to go but I would like to say to you that I really enjoy cooking and especially try different receipts with vegetables.
Rita and Aldora I visited the website and this subject is extremely important. Good work!
See you tomorrow

Hi everyone!

To be perfectly honest, I do not remember having any problems with food when I was young. Soup, vegetables, fish… whatever stopped inside my dish I always accepted with a big and nice smile in my face. Naturally, I had some preferences for some specific kind of food… as Joana, my favourite dish was also chips with steak.

Nowadays, I still not have any food problems. My only trouble with food is when I can't stop eating. Well, besides this situation I may have another serious problem… I’m a big fan of MacDonald’s. :)

See you next Monday!

Hi guys,
About food I could tell you a lot of things, but it isn't a good idea... :)
When I was a child I ate everything that my mum gave me: vegetables, fish, meat, cereals,...
But, as time goes on and I was getting older, I have some preferences... At the moment, I prefer a good steak with some rice and some vegetables (like lettuce, tomato and onion). The other vegetables I eat in the soup that my mother makes which it's very tasty.
I'm not a fan of fish but I must confess that I love roast cod, octupus and some fish fried.
I like fast food, but as you know, it's not a kind of food we can eat everytime.

See you soon..

Hi people,

Well, I have a big problem with food: I love to eat, especially sweet, churrascos, racklets, sea food, vegetables, breads of cheese, well, well, ok that’s enough.
I remember that I haven’t liked eat sopa when I was a child. Today I consider sopa as part of my lunch. I think that Portuguese is very rich and variety but, there are some Portuguese foods that I don’t like, for example, Papas de Sarrabulho or Tripas à Moda do Porto. I can’t eat it. It is terrible for me when I have to eat it.
So, as I wrote, Portuguese food is very rich. There are so many types of excellent foods from north until south but I think it is incredible to know that in Portugal there are many people with over weight because fast food. I think that Portuguese people lost their traditional food.

António.

Hi everyone!
I had never been problems with food. When I was a child a ate more fruits that I eat actually because I only eat apples and oranges :)
I eat soups (without potatoes), fish, vegetables but I also eat cakes and bread, but I try to do a balanced food, but it isn't always easy :(
I prefer Portuguese food but sometimes I try another kinds of food.
I suppose maybe you think it's a joke but I prefer baked fish with vegetables, potatoes and eggs, with olive oil and bread, instead of other more elaborate dishes.

See you later.
